Cuba Cayo Largo salt water experience

We had the pleasure to enjoy a fly fishing week with Gene, a great gentlemen from Austin Texas who had visited Cuba for the first time.

We have stayed with Gene at the Sol Melia Resort in Cayo Largo Cuba for fly fishing permit, tarpon and bonefish. The Sol Club in Cayo Largo is a beautiful all-inclusive Resort located on the southern shore of Cayo Largo. Cayo Largo is situated in the Canarreos Archipelago, on the southwestern coast of Cuba and belongs to Municipio Especial Isla de la Juventud. It is 177 km from Habana City and has 27 km of cool fine-grain white sandy beaches.

The Resort is only 5 minutes from the International Airport. It offers a total of 296 comfortable rooms with a terrace or balcony overlooking the ocean, including 8 Junior Suites and 52 deluxe rooms. This is the perfect destination to bring along a non-fishing wife or girlfriend.

In Cayo Largo you can bonefish on white sand flats while your family enjoys the breathtaking beaches, drink a cocktail in the hotel pool, or participate in one of the numerous activities the resort offers.

No problem in getting a Bonefish and Tarpon License which granted us access to Cuba.

Walked around and enjoyed the local scenery.

How was Cayo Largo accommodations and service? what was good and what was a problem?

The Cayo Largo resort was nice and rooms were very comfortable.  The food was average an plentiful.  No problems or complaints.

How was your fishing? what was the best on fishing terms for you?

The fishing was incredible!

Would you think Cuba is a fly fishing destination to do it more than once in your life?

Definitely – I am already booking my trip for next year.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR DOMESTIC FLIGHTS TO CAYO LARGO

The flight from Habana to Cayo Largo takes about 30 minutes and it is a very pleasant flight.

On current year, Cuban rules for admission of items on board are stricter than past, this is for security reasons on domestic flights.

Hooks, nylons (including tippets, leaders, etc.), spray or fishing rods (regardless of size) are not allowed in hand luggage. They must be shipped as checked with bags.

For your convenience and luggage safety, we suggest to put some kind of lock on the luggage to be carried.

We expect you to be the next one! Cuba is one of the best places in the world to enjoy leisure and top fly fishing at least once in your life time.

Getting to Cuba is simple! You just need to make your call and we will make it happen!

My best
